What’s your biggest piece of advice for people remodeling their kitchen or bath?
Replacing can be much less expensive than re-facing. Weigh all of your options. The use of tile can act as the jewelry to a space. Be creative.

Why did you become a designer?
I became a designer because I love space planning. Laying a room out is like a puzzle. I keep trying until it fits just right.

Describe a recent design challenge you were confronted with and how you solved it.
Designing for husbands and wives is generally challenging. I act as a counselor as well as designer on many occasions. Being able to understand spouses wants and needs and marry (pun intended) the two opinions is important. One person wants painted cabinets – the other wants a dark stain. Helping them come up with a compromise through design is critical.

What is your proudest moment as a designer thus far?
I am proudest of the clientele that I have established throughout the years. I work with some great designers and contractors. Repeat customers always make me feel proud.
What are some of your favorite places to shop for décor or accessories for the home?
My favorite accessories come from unexpected places, i.e., thrift shops and flea markets. I love an unexpected find. Otherwise it depends on the piece. HomeGoods & Target have great lighting. HomeGoods in general has an excellent assortment of styles for accessories.

When it comes to your own home, are you more DIY or HAE (Hire An Expert)? DIY.
If I can figure out a way to do it myself or do it less expensively, I will. I found this amazing 16-piece collage of paintings in a magazine. I was too frugal to pay what they were asking. So I sketched the images myself, blew them up to the desired size, painted them, and I love the finished product!
